1.   Celebrate Maple Season !

Outaouais offers a lot of amazing sugar shacks for you to taste. From traditional to gourmet menus, there’s plenty of choice near the Wakefield Mill !

Hurry up before it’s too late, Maple season ends on April 23.

Do not miss the Sugar Shack in Old Aylmer Festival !
Real paradise for maple syrup lovers, this festival will take place on March 25 and March 26 in the old Aylmer, Gatineau.

2. Witness nature’s revival

Take advantage of a gentler weather to explore the Gatineau Park ! Located 700m away from the P17 entrance of the park, the Wakefield Mill is the ideal departure point. Take a long walk and look at nature slowly coming back to life. Enjoy this particular time of year to go on a Forest Therapy : let all your senses awaken and revel in a peaceful moment with Mother Nature.

3.   Be amazed by thousands of Tulips

Spring means endless Tulip fields and Outaouais has some of the hottest places to admire them !

Soon enough you’ll see tulips emerging everywhere, bringing colors and life the cities. Take a walk by the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Ottawa or Gatineau city center to admire them.

Mark your calendar, the Canadian Tulip Festival comes back ! From May 12 to May 22, attend a spectacular event in Ottawa Commissioners Park where you’ll be able to admire more than 300 000 tulips ! Do not miss the sound and light show starting everyday à 9:15pm. Note that the entrance is free but some activities have a small fee. More info here.

4.   Bike through the region

Goodbye winter and snowy landcape, hello biking season !

Did you know the National Capital Region has over 200km bike paths ? No matter your ability level, whether you are looking for a ride in nature or in a urban setting, Outaouais has bike routes for every cyclist! Ranging from 6km to 37km, choose the route that suits you best and make a day out of it before returning to the Mill.

5.   Dive into art & culture

Rainy spring day ? Take that opportunity to discover local art and culture !

Head to the Fairbairn House, passing by the Wakefield covered Bridge, located in the Wakefield Village, to learn about local history through exhibitions and events. Opens on May.

Wakefield is a real paradise for artists and art lovers !

  • Art Mode Gallery, located in the Wakefield Mill. All art pieces in the establishment are made by local artists and are for sale.

  • Gallerie McKenzie Marcotte, a gallery of ceramics made by two artists from the area, located in Wakefield.

  • Wakefield Artisan Gallery, featuring local art and crafts.

  • Farrellton Artists Space, a cooperative located in Farrellton, 12 minutes drive from Wakefield. Gathering local professional artists, it hosts various events and workshops throughout the year.

Pass by the Arts-aux-Parcs exhibition taking place in Val-des-Monts (30 minutes from Wakefield) on May 27 and May 28. Discover visual art and crafts through 48 exhibitors !
