The Wakefield Mill Inn & Spa is forging a new identity with a major $3-million expansion of lodging and activities. The venture is a fresh, contemporary take on a historic site.
This country hotel north of Ottawa has built a loyal clientele during the past 10 years based on its charming origins as an 1830s grist mill and its alluring setting beside a picturesque waterfall. Fulsome brunches, romantic dinners and spa life are the major attractions.
This month, Wakefield Mill is unveiling its new Eco River Lodge accommodations and the Miller’s House Spa, plus a swimming pool and a dock with kayaks and canoes for quick paddles into Gatineau Park.
“We don’t like the ‘r’ word,” said Robert Milling, who owns Wakefield Mill with his wife, Lynn Berthiaume. “It is not a resort because we still are adult-focused, but the added activities will be the biggest change for guests.” ...read the whole article
